Aussie Helpers Christmas Appeal

Aussie Helpers

Collection boxes at the Brookvale studio week 1 & 2

Dear Friends,

It’s that time of year again and I am starting my collection for the farmers this Christmas.

You may have seen Aussie Helpers on the Sunday Night program recently outlining the plight of our farming families during this devastating drought. It is heartbreaking that depression & suicide are taking the lives and breaking the spirits of these hardworking Australians.

Brian & Nerida from Aussie Helpers have asked me to make up some food hampers again this Christmas as they were greatly appreciated last year.

I have listed below some suggested items for the hampers for your information:

  • Mince tarts, Fruit cakes or Christmas puddings
  • Shortbread, Sweet or Savoury biscuits
  • Nuts
  • Raisins, Sultanas or Cranberries
  • Instant Gravy sachets
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Herbs or Sauces
  • Long life custard or cream
  • Mini pavlova or meringue cases
  • Tins of mixed berries, fruits or passionfruit pulp
  • Cake mixes
  • Sweets (please no chocolate as they don’t travel well & melt)
  • Jams & marmalades
  • Tea & Coffee
  • Serviettes
  • Christmas ornaments (please consider they have to travel far so nothing breakable)
Aussie Helpers are also in need of gifts for the male famers and the teenage boys. Some suggestions include magazines, books, DVD’s, sunglasses, socks, caps, candy/sweets, sports equipment, playing cards, board games, wallets, watches, back to school stationery packs etc. Please note all items need to be new (not used) and within expiry dates.

I will need to have the items by the end of October as I am planning to pack boxes the first week of November. This will allow gifts to be collected, transferred and distributed to drought affected areas of Northern NSW and Western Queensland in time for Christmas.

If you are interested in donating some items, please let me know as I am happy to collect goods from you or you are welcome to drop them in when you’re next passing.

Thanks again for your support & for helping us make a difference.

Kind regards,
Tash Porteous
