BENJAMIN SHAW
B.App.Sc.(Physiotherapy) (Hons) Ben graduated as a Physiotherapist from Cumberland College of Health Sciences, University of Sydney in 2001. His honours research focused on the measurement of functional disability caused as a consequence of one's low back pain. Ben has worked in both the public and private health care sectors. Much of his experience has focussed on treating musculoskeletal injuries and dysfunction including back pain. During his time at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney Ben was responsible for the treatment and rehabilitation of spinal injury patients. Other areas of experience include acute hospital care, hands and group education/exercise classes (spinal and pre-exercise stretch routines for rowers). Whilst at Penrith Physiotherapy Sports Centre Ben focused on sports injury rehabilitation and further honed his skills in prescribing core muscle strengthening programmes to combat poor posture, surgery rehabilitation and the effects of low back pain. Ben is an advocate of the crucial role that our core abdominal muscles play in back pain prevention, posture improvement, correction of movement dysfunction and aiding an active lifestyle in our everyday activities. These principles have formed the basis of his spinal treatment programmes for several years. Clinical Pilates is a keen area of interest for Ben and one he enjoys integrating into his exercise classes. Ben is married and is expecting his first child in July 2006. He enjoys playing touch football, time with friends and studying at Bible College.
